So if you read my blog, you know I’m PISSED with the cancellation of so many great shows. Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Life on Mars are all dead, but there’s hope. And you won’t find it on any broadcast network.
Being Erica is a primetime series from Canada that centers around the 30something Erica Strange. She may be pretty, but she’s made some big mistakes in her life that have led her to be unemployed and man-less. But she’s in luck! After having one of the worst days of her life, she visits a psychiatrist who claims he can fix all her problems. Or give her the ability to fix them herself, rather. After making a list of the many regrets in her life, the psychiatrist transports her back in time to her younger years to correct the mistakes she’s made.
Combining comedy, drama and a little bit of supernatural, Being Erica proves itself to be a show worth of a Thursday night spot on one of the Big 4. ABC, making a smart decision this season, picked up the show for its SoapNet network and put it on Thursdays a 10/9c.
I watched the first episode out of curiosity and was immediately hooked. It has all the quirkyness of shows like Daisies and Betty, and the “out-there” plot of time travel makes it by far one of the more original programs to air in recent years.
If you have SoapNet, I highly recommend giving it a try. Unfortunately it is not yet available on hulu, iTunes or SoapNet.com. Let’s hope that changes soon.
