Echoes

As I was looking at the cover to Martin Wilson’s What They Always Tell Us, I kept thinking, “There’s something familiar about this.”

It wasn’t until today that it hit me how similar it is to what is without a doubt the greatest picture ever taken of me, thanks to Moraya. I was 20 at the time and the city of Tuscaloosa hadn’t yet “revitalized” the banks of the Black Warrior River. We walked down to the water and took some photos and this resulted:

I guess that’s why I love the cover to the book so much; it reminds me of a time when I was really happy and the people I loved were still close by.
